		LAND LINE In order to set up phone service for your house you need to go to the Telmex office in Plaza Caracole. You will need to bring along proof of your address, a copy of an electrical bill or a water bill will do and it does not have to be in your name. You will also need a copy of your I.D. For the most part they only speak Spanish so bring along a Spanish English dictionary or a bilingual friend. The initial hock up cost is approximately 1,300 pesos depending on whether you need lines installed. This amount can be incorporated in your first bill.
		CELL PHONE It used to be very easy to get a cell phone. All you had to do was to go to any Telcel outlet, buy a phone and away you go but now you need to bring I.D. and proof of address. Any bill will do as proof of address and if you are renting a bill in the landlords name is fine. Most cell phones come with pay as you go credit so once you purchase your phone the sales person will call the Telcel main office to register your phone and activate your credit.

		The personnel in the main office may want to talk with you on the phone to register you and that can be difficult if you do not speak Spanish because only a few of them speak English. To call a local cell phone from a local landline, you must dial 044 + area code + seven digits. When dialing long distance to a cell phone you dial 045 + area code + seven digit number. When dialing long distance to a lanline dial 01 + area code + the seven digit number.
